How to clash a colour and a pattern

After days of rain, Easter Sunday was a welcome sunny day. With the last of summer behind us, I took this last opportunity to head down to the beach for a leisurely Sunday lunch. I'd been meaning to wear these bold orange skorts (skirt / shorts!) from Kelly & Port for a while now (also available in other colours), so I pulled it out straight away.

Going to the beach though, I wanted to "dress it down" so instead of matching it with a blouse, I chose a cotton tee in a blue stripe to contrast the skirt.

The trick with a bold colour and a pattern is to make sure that the pattern is pretty simple (like straight lines) and that the colour of the pattern (a bold blue) can hold its' own with the bold statement piece (orange skorts).

To finish the look I threw on a pair of nude wedges and a gold cuff.
