Covet that Look: The Balmain Jacket
I thought it might be fun to do something new on the blog, called "Covet that Look", where I take a key, designer statement piece and give you different ways to interpret and adopt the look for yourself (and at a fraction of the cost!).
Covet
Today, we look at Balmain's highly in-demand military jacket. The who's who of Hollywood can be seen rocking these very rock n'roll, structured jacket, which Balmain has produced in several different styles over the seasons. A divine piece of work, this is the kind of jacket that will last forever.

Look for less
As you've probably guessed, this piece has a somewhat insane price tag (think thousands of dollars...), so I went on the hunt for options inspired by the same look but (much) cheaper. These pieces will give you a tamer, more everyday look that you can wear to the office or a night out.
The Military Pea Coat
Mia Military Pea Coat from Portmans
This beautifully tailored coat from Portmans captures the essence of a military coat. It's double breasted and the hardware & glitz is subtler than the Balmain original.
It's casual enough to run around in during the day for your errands, yet dressy enough with skinny jeans and a pair of heels for a night out with the girls. The flexibility of the piece is major bang for your buck!
The Military Cape
Military inspired cape from Sheike
I'm obsessed with capes this season. They've been around for a while, but this winter I've been seized with a need to wear them with everything - and I have my eye on this one as my next purchase!
This very sleek and minimalist cape has military accents with the buttons and epaulet style collar. It also comes in a beautiful camel coloured option for those that want a lighter colour!
The Leather Jacket
Kacy Faux Leather Blazer from Forever New
Okay, so this blazer is not military-inspired. BUT the look and attitude of this piece are just asking to be noticed in the same way the Balmain blazer does, making it an instant must-have.
The tailoring of the jacket mixed with subtle hints of hardware promises an outfit that will command attention in any room. The clean lines give it a sharp look that will perfectly contrast a svelte cocktail dress, or be adventurous and wear it with a pair of tapered pants for that power suit alternative.
The Va-va-voom Military Top
Asilio military blazer from The Iconic
This take on the blazer is all pairing a sexy off the shoulder look with the structured military blazer. This is a HOT number to wear for a Saturday night out, matched with skinny pants (leather if you are feeling super sexy) or a little skirt!
So - who says you need to earn millions to look like a million bucks?
