Clothing Masterclass 101: Class 1 - Choosing the perfect LBD
Written by Wendy Mak
With Christmas party season around the corner the Little Black Dress (LBD) is getting a bit of a run around town with women everywhere falling on that old faithful LBD to keep them looking stylish this season.
Around the stores it seems there are more versions of the LBD than there are different versions of CSI the TV show. So, what key elements to look for in your LBD to ensure it flatters your shape?
Firstly, be honest about what areas you'd like to camouflage.
Then take a deep breath, stop pulling your body shape apart and now determine what parts of your body do you LOVE and would be proud to show off. (This is usually the trickier part).
The beauty about black is it's a great concealer - so whatever area you'd like to camouflage then use a solid black in that area. For the areas that you are happy to highlight, use detailing or a different colour to bring attention to that area.
Detailing such a flat "ruffles" (note they should lie flat and not pouf out like a bad 1980's dress gone wrong) and a lace overlay also help to camouflage but adding an additional layer to give your dress more structure. You can also use things like a big statement necklace to bring attention to the face.
A wide open v-neck is usually the most flattering neckline, showing off your delicate décolletage.
Finally, accents like a waist band helps to create curves, or add a belt to help with the creation of curves!
