Accessorising Masterclass 101 - Class 1: choosing colour
Written by Wendy Mak
I often hear women struggling to accessorise. This will be the first in a series of posts to help make accessorising easy.
The first step is colour. Gone are the days when "matchy-matchy" accessories and clothes were the way to go...
No one wants to look like they stepped out of a cover page from a 1984 magazine where your cornflower blue dress perfectly matched your cornflower blue bag and shoes!!
So, how to use and choose colours that aren't an exact match BUT not look like a colour blind clown threw up on your outfit?
The first method is to look for a little accent colour within your dress that is NOT the dominant colour in your dress. Then choose your accessories in this little accent colour.
You'll be amazed at how much your outfit POPS - your statement accessories are now highlighting a speck of colour from the outfit - bringing the look together and contrasting in a pleasant way.
The second insider trick to picking colour for your accessories is to download a simple colour wheel chart and pair colours that are OPPOSITE each other on the colour wheel.
Look for the colour closest to your clothing on the colour wheel, and then look at the colour directly opposite yours in the wheel, and choose accessories in that colour! Voila!
Until next time,
