Accessorising Masterclass 101: Class 3 - The 2-item rule
One of the questions that plaques so many of my clients is how to accessorise, as it can seem daunting or baffling. But if you've read Class 1 of my Accessorising Masterclasses, you've probably worked out that there often is a nice & simple rule of thumb that you can apply to using accessories to flatter and not scare (everyone knows a crazy Aunt Bertha who rocks up to Christmas with more baubles on than the tree...). Today's class is no exception. It's a great little rule that has never let me down. The 2-item rule is simply this: choose two accessories that are in the same colour (or colour family - it does not have to be an exact tonal match) and you have a proper "look" to your outfit.
The idea here is when we have just one random item thrown on, it can look a little lost, like it was an after-thought. When you've got two items that coordinate however, you start to get the sense that this is a complete, cohesive outfit! Now remember, don't go too crazy with this rule and walk out with five matching accessories (remember crazy Aunt Bertha?) - three to four items at a maximum should be all you need to help add a bit of punch, and even then only if the items aren't too big or bold in size or colour.
And don't forget that accessories can include things like shoes and bags as well!
And it doesn't have to be a solid coloured accessory, matched with another solid coloured item. You can choose a single colour from an item that is multi-coloured and match that with a solid piece like in the example below....
However you do it though - enjoy this simple rule and watch your outfits start to come to life!
Happy Styling!! xx
