4 Strategies to Perfectly Camouflage that Extra Weight

I've put on a little weight recently and told myself I'd lose it after Christmas. But here we are, 3 months after the holiday season and it's still not shifting!!! So my next best action plan? Camouflage it using clothes and accessories :)

Here are my 4 best strategies to perfectly camouflage that extra weight in an instant!

Hide the tum

This is a nifty trick, but you need to know what you're looking for. A bit of detail such as an extra panel, even ruching or a peplum will help conceal the tummy if you're carrying a little bit more weight than normal (note: this doesn't work if you are an oval or distinctly triangle body shape).

However, you need to be very careful to ensure that when it's on you, it sits "flat" and doesn't stick out awkwardly otherwise it will add extra bulk to your outfit.

Coverage for thighs

If it's your thighs that are a concern, then a longer skirt with a bit of kick helps to provide welcome coverage.

Once again though, know what you're looking for. A skirt in a very stiff fabric or too much volume runs the risk of swamping you rather than camouflaging.

A little arm coverage

When it comes to arm coverage, look for clever pieces that are a little more interesting than your standard sleeve.

Below I'm wearing a little shift lace dress that had some open cut out sleeves to show off the top of my shoulders but then  covers what I call my "armpit muffin" :)

The sheer lace and cut out makes this little cover sexier than a full sleeve.

Show off your assets

Of course, you can also fall back to a classic camouflaging tip - the big cardi or blousey top!

The trick with this is to ensure that while you might be adding bulk to your top half that you are showing off your thinner assets.

For example, I've made sure in the example below that I have worn tight leggings to show off the shape of my legs to offset the bulkier, heavier top. If I didn't I'd look too boxy!

Other neat little hacks including ensuring the top has 3/4 sleeves to show off slim wrists or a lower neckline to accentuate the décolletage.
