How To Do Colour
For a lot of us, black and neutrals are "safe" colours. There's a lot of it around, it's easy to buy and is more user-friendly (what with black being so slimming and all). But black day after day can be, well, just dull.
So here are a few quick tips to inject a little rainbow of colour into your day, without looking like you've dressed up for your kids' clown themed birthday party!
Start small
Nothing worse than shocking everyone by looking like a walking block of colour :)
So start small when incorporating colours to your wardrobe. The colour doesn't need to be super bright - just pick something that you're comfortable with.
In fact, when you're first experimenting with colour, anything out of your standard norm is a step in the right direction!
Use just one bold, bright piece
If this is your first time at the colour rodeo, don't overpower your outfit with an overwhelming amount of colour - use it sparingly.
Baby steps are always a good way to go with something new and it's a good way to let just one colour take the spotlight. Plus you'll only need to worry about finding that ONE good coloured piece instead of trying to combine a bunch of hues together.
You could also allow this "statement piece" to define your look, like I've done below with a coloured blazer - my outfit is about the blazer rather than a boring pair of jeans.
Clash a couple of colours
If you're feeling a bit bolder, then try some colour clashing!
There's a really neat little trick to colour clashing effectively, which you can read all about here in a previous post about how to coordinate colour in accessories (the theory in the post holds true for clothing too, not just accessories).
Be creative
The ultimate trick to colour, is to be daring and creative.
Throw "rules" out the window. Forget your inhibitions. Don't worry about what others will think >> if YOU love it, wear it!
Mix it all up, colours and prints - and dare to go so far as to introduce colour in clothing and accessories all at once!
No matter how you do colour, let me know in the comments below or better yet - post a pic on Facebook!
Until next time - stay stylishly happy,
