A Guide to Dressing Up for the Holidays
Christmas is (scarily) just a few weeks away and like everyone else, I'm looking forward to the festivities and merry-making of the season. And of course, the perfect chance to frock up!
So in the spirit of the season, here's a guide to keep in mind when dressing up for coming holidays.
Wear Bright Colours
There's no better season to wear the brightest colours than the holidays. If you've been wearing neutrals all year in the office, take that leap and rock holly red, jewel tones and glitzy gold or silver! Make celebrations more festive with reds and emeralds and teals at the family BBQ or office party.
Tip: If a coloured dress seems a bit overwhelming, choose accessories in vibrant hues to spice up your outfit instead, such as just a top or pair of shoes.
Bring on the Glitz!
Don't be afraid to shine (literally)! Baubles and bling (to go with your sparkling bubbles!) are always in season during the holidays.
Pile on strands of shiny necklaces and offset it with a pair of simple studs on the ears for a stunning entrance, or stack on bangles and finish the look with a couple of cocktail rings for a dramatic party-ready look.
Not ready to do bling jewels? Wear a bit of glitz instead like this jacket!
Keep it Light
If you're like me when it comes to dressing up - comfort will be your motto!
Australian festivities mean warm weather. Which can sometimes make for a sweaty holiday season!! So pick fabrics in breathable material such as cotton, light polyester and or even a light linen (should you be game enough to iron) for that work do or that family shin-dig.
Keep it light in shorts and a light blouse
High Heels!
Yes, some loathe it when I use this word - heels!!! But it's the holidays! And it only comes once a year. So take those heels out for a spin. and flaunt those legs on a night out in town.
While you're at it, choose a vibrant coloured pair of heels. After all, tis the season to have fun with our fashion choices!
Have Tons of Fun!
No matter what you wear, be jolly and cheerful as this is definitely one of the best times of the year. Enjoy the season in the company of family and close friends.
Reflect and remember the good times shared throughout the year. Take time to sit down and cherish the company of your husband, parents, friends and children (or for me - the fur-kids!!).
