Or in other words >>> what’s your purpose?
I know this is a hard, home-truth question to hit you up with straight upfront.
But this post is all about action + living your purpose. I don’t want to mess about by playing with words or kicking an empty Coke can around when we can get straight to the heart of the matter.
You see, Easter is a beautiful time. If you’re in Australia (as I am), you get a lovely 4-day weekend. The roads are quiet, the peace is divine and there is a sense of reverence owing to the nature of the holiday.
It was the perfect time for me to take stock and really ask myself if I was living my purpose. It was time for me to answer the question “why am I here?”
It’s possibly the most powerful question you could ever ask yourself.
“Why am I here” implies that whatever possibilities this world holds for you, YOU can make a conscious decision and play an active part in how your future is shaped.
You aren’t asking yourself “what does the world have in store for me”, but “what do I really want to do in this world?”.
Is the reason why you’re here because you want to work day-in, day-out until you’re 65 to get your retirement cheque? Or is the reason why you’re here greater and bigger than that?
When you know the answer to this one key question, you’ll get the clarity you need to get closer to living your purpose.
One important thing. There is NO right or wrong answer. There is no answer that is better or worse than another. This is not a black & white response.
Your answer is a commitment to yourself. Don’t think “well that sounds great but that’s never going to happen”, because it sure as heck won’t. Answer with the highest of ambitions.
Your answers become your goals, targets. Things we strive to do. Things that help us to be the best person we possibly can.
So – why am *I* here?
In the spirit of sharing, here’s my answers for myself:
1. To savour every moment
– by spending quality time with my family, friends + the things that make me happy (hanging with my dogs + eating good food tick the boxes).
2. To build a life I love through a business I’m passionate about.
My business today helps women create their own (very stylish) little businesses. Through this blog I try to sow seeds of inspiration + entrepreneurship. I teach & coach women how to grow and market their businesses.
I love what I do. And I’m crystal clear on the fact that no matter what – I’ll only want to work on a business I’m passionate about, and on my own terms.
3. To do whatever I can to help other people less blessed than me.
I’m no Mother Teresa. But I will try to give back in any way I can. Even if it’s just grabbing any loose change I have every time I see the Salvation Army man at my local shops.
I am *NOT* here to:
1. Lament or moan about things that don’t go according “to plan”.
Change is a constant. And frankly, there were some dreams and hopes I had for myself that just didn’t happen. But I choose to not dwell on that and to focus on my future instead.
2. Waste time.
Time is the most valuable commodity I have. I refuse to be caught in in-action or “coulda, woulda, shoulda” mode. Every minute counts. I intend to always be “doing” something with that time.
3. Chase money.
Yes, I run a business. It needs to make money. I have bills to pay. I would also dearly love for my business to make me millions of dollars. But I’m not choosing money over time with my family. Creating an empire is not my aim.
I deliberately chose to build a “lifestyle” business. A business that (I hope) helps other women entrepreneurs while delivering the flexibility + lifestyle I want. I may never make as much as Donald Trump.
But I will always have more than enough. And that’s all the abundance I need.
BIG question, even BIGGER answers….
I hope that by putting my heart on the table it helps to encourage you to ask yourself >>> so, why am I here?
